Strumming Through Life: Playing Musical Instruments, by: Cruz, Patrice
Seeing my mom play the guitar and piano has always intrigued me since my childhood days, and the fact that she did it so effortlessly motivated me more than I understood. I will reminisce about those moments, sitting next to her and synchronizing vocals as she played, and it remains one of my cherished childhood moments. I, like many, decided to learn how to play and therefore began with the ukulele and eventually the guitar. The beginning was tough, but with time it was something I used to unwind after stressful moments, especially after a hectic day. At this stage, music has become my comfort. It calms me and brings me to a state of relaxation whereby I feel I am in control. I even recorded a short video of myself playing a song on the guitar, so you could appreciate and understand the depth of value this hobby has to me.
Gaining this skill has made me realize how much I appreciate it, and has instilled a sense of confidence in me. Looking ahead, I wish to continue improving, learn more songs, perhaps even compose my own music, and keep sharing this passion with people — my mother — who was my very first inspiration, being the most special one.
